A Safe Environment Program for Children and Youth of the Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston
Under the direction of Daniel Cardinal DiNardo and in compliance with the United States Catholic Conference of Bishops, or USCCB, Charter for the Protection of Children and Young People, the Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston has initiated Sacred and Safe, a faith-based educational program, to prevent sexual abuse with children in kindergarten through the 12th grade.
This effort involves a partnership between Church and home through a combination of policies, procedures, and education which foster safe environments for children and provide the necessary skills and educational resources to safeguard their well-being from sexual abuse.
An age appropriate faith-based lesson will be provided during the first week of November. Parents will have the opportunity to review all lessons and parent take-home resources. Parents will have the option to do the lesson at home. A parent signature will be required as an acknowledgement that the parent has chosen to exercise the home option.
A parent take-home resource will be given directly to parents after the children’s session to review and reinforce the lesson at home. It will not be given to the child to take home.
A parent meeting will be offered for those parents wanting more assistance.
