A holy hour is an hour* set apart for God, and we strive to make a holy hour every day. When possible, strive to make a holy hour at least once per week before the Blessed Sacrament in Eucharistic Adoration, and find a quiet place to make your holy hour on the other days of the week. While there are many acceptable ways of spending this time, the following format is recommended for the ARMOR holy hour:
- Opening Prayer (5 minutes). Start your holy hour with verbal prayer before the Lord, giving Him praise and asking for his mercy.
- Read the Bible (15 minutes). Read the Daily Bible Readings and reflect on a word or phrase that stands out to you for each reading (Reading 1, Responsorial Psalm, Reading 2 when present, and the Gospel).
- Silent Prayer (20 minutes). Dialogue silently with the Lord and bring before Him whatever is on your mind and heart, including your reflection from the Daily Bible Readings. Then, it is important to give the Lord time to respond as you silently listen for His response.
- Intercession (15 minutes). Offer up any prayer intentions as you pray the Rosary.
- Joyful Mysteries on Mondays and Saturdays (and Sundays during Advent).
- Sorrowful Mysteries on Tuesdays and Fridays (and Sundays during Lent).
- Glorious Mysteries on Wednesdays & (outside Lent and Advent) Sundays.
- Luminous Mysteries on Thursdays.
- Thanksgiving (5 minutes). Finish your holy hour by giving thanks to God for all the gifts and graces He bestows on you.
*If an entire hour isn’t feasible at one time, strive to make your holy hour in steps throughout the day (ie. #1 in the morning, #2 and #3 after lunch/dinner, #4 and #5 before bedtime). If an entire hour isn’t feasible in steps throughout the day, strive to make your holy “hour” as shorter holy “moments” throughout the day.
