This Sunday we watch in spirit as Fr. Sean and Fr. Vincent celebrate Mass and we hear the voice of Jesus the Good Shepherd. We in the liturgy department can’t help but notice that in our particular pasture of Christ the Redeemer, all the sheep are missing! Liturgy is often referred to as the “work of the people.”
Liturgy is our communal response and participation in the many sacred celebrations we as Catholics pray together. But with no people physically present in the church, how do we do liturgy?
Well, liturgy most definitely looks different right now. Of course, Mass still goes on, but now our flock celebrates from their own “domestic church.” Today we mirror the Mass celebrations of Peter, Paul, and the early disciples. We gather in our homes and pray together as best we can. While we do not have the Eucharist to hold and consume, we still have Christ’s love and Good News to share with all we do have the privilege to come in contact with.
Before long, we will come back as one Body of Christ to celebrate and participate in the liturgy together in our parish home, the church building of Christ the Redeemer Catholic Church. Until then, we in the liturgy department hope that our many parishioners and families will search out ways to do the “work of the people” whether it be praying before mealtimes, celebrating virtual Mass, finding time for prayer and spiritual reflection, or just being with the people you love (even if it’s just yourself).
When life returns to normal, we look forward to seeing the many faces of our liturgical ministers. To our Altar Servers, EMHCs, Lectors, Mass Coordinators, Ushers, Sacristans, A&E, Church Tenders, Prayer Blanket ministers, Altar Linens and Vestments ladies, Rosary groups, and so many more, WE MISS YOU! And for those out there that would like to join us as we do the “work of the people”
