Reconciliation is a celebration of the fact that God has already forgiven us! What a beautiful statement. It reminds us that there is a dimension to the Sacrament that is often overlooked. We have only to think of the father waiting for his wayward son’s return from the Parable of the Lost Son in Matthew’s Gospel. God is always waiting for us, hoping for our return to him when we have strayed.
A group of 40 children celebrated the Sacrament for the first time in September. Even with the sanitizing, the masks, and safe distancing, there was for all of us an “encounter with Christ”. Michelle Christopher, Sacrament Coordinator sent out a Flocknote shortly after that special day. Her words captured the joy we all felt.
“What a beautiful celebration Reconciliation was! It was so wonderful to see how much joy is in the children’s faces as they leave the Church. It was also such a blessing to see how you, parents, encouraged your children and helped them with their penance, often praying with them. We are so blessed to have been a part of this with each of your families. Thank you for allowing us to walk on this journey with you. And always remember……..”
