Bridget Kelly Wenk has served as Director of Music Ministries at Christ the Redeemer since 2009. She oversees all aspects of the musical life of the parish and personally directs the children’s, teen and adult choirs.
A native Houstonian, Bridget began playing the piano at age four and the organ at her home parish, St. Peter the Apostle, at age eleven. She went on to earn a degree in organ performance from the University of Houston where she studied organ with Robert Jones and choral conducting with Charles Hausmann. She has studied liturgy and theology at the University of St. Thomas and the University of Notre Dame. Bridget has served as Director of Music and Liturgy at both St. Augustine and St. Theresa parishes in Houston and was Director of Liturgical Music at St. Mary’s Seminary from 1991-2007. While at St. Mary’s Bridget co-founded the St. Mary’s Men’s Chorus, combining seminarian singers with men from throughout the archdiocese. She continued as director of the chorus for more than ten years.
Bridget has served as an organist for many liturgies and events throughout the Houston area. She has presented workshops on liturgical music in various parishes as well as at the Southwest Liturgical Conference and National Association of Pastoral Musicians conventions. While at St. Mary’s Bridget taught elective courses in liturgical music for the University of St. Thomas. Bridget is also active in the Taizé prayer community, directing music for regular services at the Villa de Matel.
Bridget now lives in Cypress, Texas. She enjoys spending time with her four children and five grandchildren and many wonderful friends.
