Carolyn Thornton’s story is like many Christ the Redeemer staff employees – she was asked to help out for a while and ended up sticking around for years to come. Carolyn, the Parish Bookkeeper, works on the day-to-day financial activities at CtR including overseeing the money counters, making deposits for departments, paying bills and assisting the Business Manager.
Born and raised in Houston, Carolyn received her Bachelor of Business Administration in Accounting from University of Houston. In November 2009, Rev. Sean Horrigan asked Carolyn to join the CtR staff on a part-time/temporary basis to assist with parish financials. A longtime volunteer at CtR, Carolyn jumped right in. She continues to work at CtR from this first invitation. She said she’s always had a knack for working with money and numbers and she sees her role as part job and part ministry.
She currently lives in Wortham with her husband, Robert. They were married in 1987 at St. Ambrose Catholic Church. She and Robert have two daughters,
Carrie (who works at CtR as Director of Communications) and Lisa. Both live close by so Carolyn and Robert are able to spend a lot of time with their grandchildren. She is involved in ministries at CtR including
Ladies Auxiliary,
Perpetual Eucharistic Adoration,
ACTS and the
Usher Ministry.
