With a servant’s heart and ambitious attitude, Ofelia Carrasco is making the most of her retirement by not sitting still. Not only did she decide to work part time as the Liturgy Assistant in the Liturgy Department in 2014, she also helps out in Youth Ministry and goes on mission trips, aids the Religious Education Department, teaches the Sacrament of Confirmation, is active in the Teams of Our Lady married couples group, and continues to volunteer as a sacristan and Eucharistic Minister of Holy Communion. Whew.
Ofelia was appointed to Director of Liturgy in November 2018.
Ofelia grew up in El Paso, Texas. She had been baptized already, but received her Sacraments of First Eucharist and Confirmation in 1988 at St. James Parish in Spring, Texas. Her marriage was also convalidated the same year. She says she has been on fire for the Church ever since. She moved to Houston and later became the Director of Religious Education and Confirmation at St. John Neumann Catholic Church in Houston where she ran a bilingual program with more than 1800 children. Wanting be close to his wife, her husband, David, became the Director of Youth Ministry.
The Carrascos moved to Cypress in 2007. At CtR, Ofelia immediately was involved with the Journey Through Scripture Bible Study and later David and she each went on an ACTS retreat. After the retreat, they were both bonded to the CtR family in ways they could not have imagined.
In 2014, Ofelia joined David in formation to the Diaconate program. Working side by side, they continued their faith journey and involvement at CtR. In February 2021, Deacon David was ordained as a Permanant Deacon for the Diocese of Galveston-Houston. Ofelia stood proudly by his side.
The Carrascos currently live in Cypress and have two adult children, Deanna and Reggie, and three grandchildren.
