Praying for vocations is the most powerful way to support vocations. A vocation is a call from the Holy Spirit, a gift from God that is nurtured in prayer. When we pray for vocations, we lift up to our Father those men and women whom He is calling to follow Him in a special way.
About the Program
At Christ the Redeemer, the Vocation Chalice Program provides each family/individual of the parish an opportunity to promote vocations through prayer. Each weekend after Communion at one of the Sunday Masses, the assigned family or individual is called forward by the priest to receive a special chalice and be commissioned to pray for vocations that week on behalf of the entire parish community. They are asked to place the chalice in a prominent place in their home and to spend some time each day praying for vocations. Our families have been praying for vocations with the chalice since January 2007.
What do we do with the chalice at home?
If you and/or your family have not had the opportunity to pray with the Vocation Chalice, don’t miss out on this exceptional experience! We have made it easy for you. A prayer booklet is provided with the chalice, which includes suggested prayers. It also contains family discussion questions to give you an opportunity to talk about vocations with your children. In addition, two very inspirational, youth-friendly, 15-18 minute DVDs are provided, as well as a journal to read about other families’ experiences with the chalice and write about your own.
