What is Confirmation?In the Sacrament of Confirmation, we receive the fullness of the Holy Spirit, confirming and strengthening the grace of our baptism. As the Catechism of the Catholic Church states, “Through Confirmation, the baptized are more perfectly bound to the Church and are enriched with a special strength of the Holy Spirit.”
This sacrament:- Unites us more firmly with Christ.
- Increases the gifts of the Holy Spirit within us.
- Deepens our bond with the Church.
- Empowers us to spread and defend the faith.
- Fosters a sense of belonging to both the universal Church and our parish community.
- Belief in the promises made at baptism.
- A commitment to follow Jesus Christ and be part of His Church.
- A lifelong journey with Christ, following His commandments.
- A desire to be an active member of the Catholic Church, embracing its teachings.

Confirmation 1
Starting in 9th grade teens may begin their preparation to receive the Sacrament of Confirmation.
As part of their formation, in the first year, teens are to:- Attend Weekly Mass
- Attend Encounter for faith formation. Teens are allowed up to 4 absences throughout the year.
- Complete 3 service projects rooted in the corporal works of mercy that Christ commanded us to do as his disciples.
- Attend any approved retreat for high school teens. (Includes Encounter retreat, Service Camp, youth conferences, or Summer camps offered by CtRYM.)

Confirmation 2
After completing Confirmation 1, teens may begin Confirmation 2 as early as 10th grade.
As part of their formation, in the second year teens are to:- Attend Weekly Mass
- Choose a sponsor and ask them to be your sponsor
- Attend all 5 monthly Confirmation sessions with sponsor or parent (held Sundays after 11 a.m. Mass)
- Attend Encounter for faith formation.
- Complete 3 service projects rooted in the corporal works of mercy that Christ commanded us to do as his disciples.
- Attend Confirmation 2 Retreat
- Choose a Confirmation Saint, create a Saint project, and present it at a Confirmation session.

Confirmation Sponsors

A sponsor for Confirmation is someone who lives their faith as a disciple of Jesus Christ and is willing to walk with the Candidate on this journey to receive the sacrament and grow in their personal relationship with Jesus. Ideally, the sponsor should reside locally and cannot be a boyfriend/girlfriend but someone further along in the faith that the student looks up to and is willing to learn from. They need to be available to meet with the student once a month for the formation sessions.

To serve as a sponsor, an individual must:
- Be an active, practicing, and devoted Catholic in good standing as a member of a Catholic parish
- Have received the Sacraments of Initiation (Baptism, Eucharist, and Confirmation)
- Be at least 17 years of age
- Not be prohibited by the Church law from exercising the role of sponsor
- Not be the candidate's parent (per Canon law)
Additionally:- There is no gender restriction; the sponsor can be male or female for any candidate.
- Only one sponsor per candidate; you cannot "officially" have more than one. Only one seat will be saved for the day of your confirmation but if you choose to meet with a couple, or use both your godparents, that's fine. Only one will be recorded and only one will sit with you and go up with you during the Confirmation Mass.
- Each child must have their own sponsor.

Confirmation 2 Retreat
-
The Confirmation Retreat is a highlight for many of our Candidates. The Candidates enjoy going away and spending the weekend together learning, growing, praying, and spending time together. The retreat is a requirement for all students.
Retreats are typically held in January of each year.

Spring 2025 Retreat Details
The Confirmation II retreat was held January 17-19, 2025, at Forest Glen Camp in Huntsville, TX.
Retreat cost is typically $200 per child and goes towards lodging, transportation, supplies, and food.

Teens will have Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner on Saturday, and Breakfast and Lunch on Sunday. Allergies or special diet information must be submitted to the camp before December 15. Link will be provided.
Teens will also be provided snacks on Friday and Saturday nights before the end of the evening (after dinner).

No, our retreat policy across the board is that teens must attend the entirety of the retreat.

No, we will not be offering more than one Confirmation retreat. If the date doesn't work for you, you'll need to find an alternate retreat date at another Catholic parish in the Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston.
